How to handle freight forwarders orders ?

🌍 What is a Freight forwarder?

A freight forwarder is a specialized logistics partner that organizes and coordinates the shipment of goods worldwide, acting as a strategic intermediary between the shipper (our merchant) and transportation providers such as shipping lines, airlines, trucking companies, and rail carriers.

Their job is to manage complex multi modal supply chains, ensuring goods reach their final destination in compliance with international transport regulations.

📦 What is Bigblue’s role for freight forwarders orders?

When an order is handled by a freight forwarder, Bigblue is responsible for the first step of the journey: the first mile i.e. the delivery to the freight forwarder’s warehouse:

  1. Bigblue prepares and delivers the order to the freight forwarder (typically located in or near ports, airports, or major logistics hubs).
  2. The freight forwarder takes over, managing the transport to the final consignee anywhere in the world.

➡️ Once the order is delivered to the freight forwarder, Bigblue is no longer responsible for the remaining transport process.

🤝🏻 How is Bigblue making it work?

For freight forwarders orders to be properly delivered, the orders need to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Order flagged as B2B in the Bigblue app
  • Input the Freight forwarder information in shipping address & customer name
  • Input final consignee’s information in the billing address fields
  • Use the freight-forwarders B2B template
    • This template, upon packing, forces the edition of customs documents. On both these documents, the billing address (= final destination) is displayed.

Any deviation from this process means additional complexity, manual communications with the carriers, delayed deliveries.

🚢 Why final destination details matter

Freight forwarders move large volumes of goods to multiple global destinations. To process shipments correctly, they must know the final delivery address to decide:

  • Which container, aircraft, or truck to load the goods onto
  • How to route them efficiently to the consignee

Without this information available, the freight forwarder will refuse the delivery.
