A) Packaging options

1. Already packaged products

CHARACTERISTICS

This option applies to products that can be shipped as they are, with no additional packaging.

💡 This only applies when an already packaged product is the sole item ordered by a customer.

ACTIVATION

You may activate this option during the creation of the product in question, as explained in part 6 of this article.

☝️ Keep in mind that when an already packaged product is shipped on its own, the shipping label is taped directly on the product.

2. Standard packaging

CHARACTERISTICS
  • Standard packaging is used for all orders by default. Each Bigblue warehouse offers its own standard packaging.
  • The cost of standard packaging is included in the Bigblue fulfillment price.
  • Bigblue standard packaging is recycled and recyclable.
ACTIVATION & INVENTORY
  • No action is required on your side to activate this packaging. If you are not using any other type of packaging, standard packaging will automatically apply to your orders.
  • The best-matching standard packaging option will automatically be chosen for every fulfillment: our algorithm will select the smallest packaging that fits the fulfillment content.
  • No need to stress about the inventory of standard packaging - it is unlimited! :)

3. Optional (or Premium) packaging

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Optional packaging has a higher cost and so an additional fee may apply for using it.

4. Custom (or Personalised) packaging

CHARACTERISTICS
  • Custom packaging gives you the possibility to use your own packaging, one that you create independently and ship to the warehouse for the fulfillment of your orders.
  • Enabling the use of custom packaging is complex operations-wise. For this reason, certain conditions need to be met in order for you to be able to use custom packaging.

💬 For more information, please contact our team via the chat.

  • An additional fee per parcel is incurred when using custom packaging.
ACTIVATION & INVENTORY

☝️ Kindly note that you can use up to 2 types of custom packaging at the same time. In case you require more than that, let our team know.

  • Once the custom packaging feature has been enabled for you, follow the steps listed below:

a) Create your custom packaging in the app

  • Access your Logistics settings
  • Select the Packaging tab
  • Click on New custom packaging

  • In the box that pops up, fill in the required information: packaging ID, Name, and Barcode

💡 Please note that the barcode will not need to appear on the physical packaging.

  • Click on Save

b) Send your packaging to the warehouse

Create an inbound shipment for your packaging in the same way that you do it for your products (cf. Create an inbound shipment).

💡 Your packaging options will appear in the list of products that can be added to the inbound shipment. Their ID always begins with PAK + your 4-letter company code.

c) Wait for the Warehouse to receive and process your packaging

Once the packaging arrives at the warehouse, it will need to be measured, weighed, and validated by our Warehouse Manager.

Your packaging inventory will then be updated and you will be able to see it by:

  • Accessing your Logistics settings
  • Selecting the Packaging tab
  • Scrolling to the bottom of the page

💡 For each packaging, you can see its ID, Name, availability (On-hand column), and Damaged quantity.

☝️ Kindly note that the packaging inventory is only displayed here (and not in the general Inventory tab of the application). Also, keep in mind that custom packaging inventory is approximate.

MANAGEMENT
  • As soon as optional packaging becomes available to your account, you will need to set up your packaging rules.
  • Consult section B for more details.

B) Managing packaging rules for optional & custom packaging

💡 If you only use standard packaging, sit down and relax! There are no rules for you to set up :)

If you use optional or custom packaging, you will simply need to rank all available packaging options so that we know which packaging has to be used in each case:

  • Access your Logistics settings
  • Select the Packaging tab
  • Look for the Preferences section, where you can see all the packaging options available to your account
  • On the left, under the Preferences list title, you should drag and drop the packaging options that you want to use and rank them by order of priority.
  • On the right, under the Unused list title, you should leave the packaging options that you do not want to use.
