🇺🇸 US shipping partially suspended due to carrier policy changes
Last update: August, 25th 2025
Current situation
The US government has recently announced a major regulatory change, effective August 29, 2025: The “De Minimis” customs exemption will be removed - previously orders with a value < 800 USD were exempted of duties and taxes.
From now on, all shipments entering the US will be subject to taxes and duties starting from the very first dollar.
Under the DAP (Delivered At Place) model, the carrier delivers the parcel to the US and collects duties and taxes directly from the buyer upon delivery.
As a result, carriers are reviewing their ability to continue offering DAP services to the US. At this stage, only UPS has confirmed it may still provide DAP shipments, though we are awaiting final confirmation from our transportation team.
You may find more details in this article.
Your options moving forward
In the very short term, you have two main options to continue serving your US customers:
Option 1: Ship to the US with different carriers
At this stage, the only carrier able to ship to the US is UPS - with associated additional costs. Delivengo, Colissimo International, and Royal Mail have suspended their services to the US.
For customs management, you can:
- either keep DAP services - custom fees will be at buyer's expense when receiving the parcel
- or switch to our DDP service - duties and taxes will be calculated and collected before shipping, with these costs appearing on your monthly Bigblue invoice. This ensures a smoother customer experience, as your buyer will not have to pay any additional fees upon delivery.
For either option, we strongly recommend adjusting your checkout pricing to minimize the impact on your margins. You may also want to include a message at checkout explaining that new US customs policies are significantly affecting international shipments.
Option 2: Temporarily suspend US shipments
If shipping to the US becomes financially unviable for your business because of the new customs regulation and taxes, you may choose to temporarily pause these shipments.
